What it covers – term life coverage

Death

We pay the sum assured in the event of the insured’s death.

Death due to an accident

In the event of death due to an accident, we pay an additional 25% of the sum assured.

Accelerated death benefit due to terminal illness

We pay in advance the sum assured in the event the insured is diagnosed with a terminal illness[1] and have a life expectancy of 12 months or less.

Total and permanent disability

We pay the sum assured in the event the insured suffers from total and permanent disability before the age of 65. In addition, we pay a further 1% of the sum assured in equal monthly payments for the next 24 months or until the insured reaches the age of 65 or until the insured dies, whichever is earliest.

Partial and permanent disability due to an accident
We pay a percentage of the sum assured described in the table of compensation in the event the insured suffers from partial and permanent disability[2] before the age of 65.

We provide complimentary coverage for your child aged between 12 months and 6 years old if you and your spouse are both insured under POGIS.

Enhance your term life coverage with optional riders

37 critical illness rider

You may enhance your term life coverage by adding a rider that covers against 37 critical illnesses[3].

We pay the sum assured upon diagnosis of a critical illness including major cancers, heart attack of specified severity and stroke. For angioplasty and other invasive treatment for coronary artery, payment is limited to 10% of the sum assured, subject to a maximum of $25,000.

10 early critical illness rider

You may enhance your term life coverage by adding a rider that covers against 10 early critical illnesses[4].

We pay the sum assured upon diagnosis of an early critical illness including early cancer, heart valve repair surgery and primary pulmonary hypertension.

Before you apply

You must be an employee of a ministry or statutory board[5] to apply for cover for this plan. You may apply for the plan for your spouse and children[6] if they are also a Singaporean, Singapore Permanent Resident or foreigner who is working or residing in Singapore.

You can choose your sum assured in multiples of $10,000, up to $500,000 each for you, your spouse and your child for term life coverage, and a total of $500,000 each for you, your spouse and your child for critical illness rider and early critical illness rider. The total sum assured for critical illness rider and early critical illness rider cannot be more than the sum assured for term life coverage.

You can pay your monthly premium via cash or your GIRO account with us. For premium payment via GIRO, premium deduction will be made on the 6th or 18th of the month. Alternatively, you may pay your premium via cheque. Please make your cheque payable to NTUC Income and write your name, NRIC number, contact number and reference number on the back of your cheque. Please mail the cheque to “NTUC Income Insurance Co-operative Limited, Income Centre, 75 Bras Basah Road, Singapore 189557”.

The premiums that you pay are based on the sum assured and insured’s age next birthday. Premium rates will change when the insured enters a higher age band. Premium rates are not guaranteed and may be reviewed from time to time.

  1. A survival period of 30 days will apply from the date of diagnosis of the terminal illness.

  2. Partial and permanent disability must happen within 365 days from the date of the accident.

  3. A survival period of 30 days will apply from the date of diagnosis of the critical illness. For major cancers, coronary artery bypass surgery, heart attack of specified severity, angioplasty and other invasive treatment for coronary artery and other serious coronary artery disease, a waiting period of 90 days from the start date or reinstatement date (if any) of the insured’s cover, whichever is later will apply.

  4. A survival period of 30 days will apply from the date of diagnosis of the early critical illness. A waiting period of 60 days from the start date or reinstatement date (if any) of the insured’s cover, whichever is later will apply.

  5. POGIS is not available to full-time SAF servicemen (including Defence Executive Officer (DXO)), Police and SCDF personnel (except civilians working in these organisations).

  6. Your spouse and children will be eligible to apply for cover if you, as an employee of a ministry or statutory board or organ of state, are insured under the plan. You will need to be insured under the term life coverage before your spouse and children can apply for cover under the plan. To apply for critical illness rider and early critical illness rider for your spouse and children, they must be insured with the term life coverage and you must be insured under the critical illness rider and early critical illness rider. The total sum assured for critical illness rider and early critical illness rider cannot be more than the sum assured for term life coverage. The sum assured for your spouse or children must not be more than your sum assured unless we have reduced your sum assured due to underwriting reasons.

    If you end your cover under POGIS or is no longer the employee of a ministry or statutory board or organ of state, the cover for you, your spouse and children will end. The cover for your spouse will also end if you are separated or divorced from your spouse.

  7. This plan does not cover any claim or loss arising from insured taking part in full-time National Service.

  8. You and your spouse will be covered for death between 66 and 70 years old. Total and permanent disability and partial and permanent disability will only be covered if the disability happens before the age of 65.

Exclusions

 

There are certain conditions whereby the benefits under this plan will not be payable. You can refer to your policy contract for the precise terms, conditions and exclusions of the plan. The policy contract will be issued when your application is accepted.

This policy is protected under the Policy Owners’ Protection Scheme which is administered by the Singapore Deposit Insurance Corporation (SDIC). Coverage for your policy is automatic and no further action is required from you.
