Singapore, 10 September 2024
Income Insurance today launched FlexiTravel Plus, Singapore’s first and only travel insurance that enables travellers to extend travel protection, as needed by the hour, to 19 Asian destinations.

As the plus-sized travel insurance for short trips, FlexiTravel Plus replaces FlexiTravel Hourly Insurance, which covered travellers to Bintan, Batam and Malaysia only. It is part of Income Insurance’s latest slate of travel insurance innovations that provide greater flexibility and valued-added benefits to today’s versatile travellers.

FlexiTravel Plus charges a minimum of $1.80 for a six-hour block of protection, with the option for travellers to extend coverage at $0.30 for every additional hour, capped at a maximum charge of $3.00 per day. For instance, a 3D2N trip to Thailand would only cost a maximum of $9.

The launch of FlexiTravel Plus is part of Income Insurance’s ongoing commitment to close protection gaps in Singapore by tapping customer-centric solutions that are inspired by customers’ lifestyles.  FlexiTravel Plus, thus, caters to and resonates with travellers who seek accessible insurance options when they go on short getaways to destinations in Asia.

Annie Chua, Vice President & Head, Key Accounts Management, Income Insurance, said, “By grounding our product design and development in actual customer needs, we keep our travel insurance not just accessible but relevant and inclusive to meet real protection needs. Overseas travel has its risks. Travellers may sometimes forget to purchase travel insurance for their trips given their busy lifestyle, while some may not regard conventional travel protection necessary especially when they are going for a short getaway. We aim to bridge these gaps by offering travel insurance options that are tailored for modern travel patterns and prevalent concerns so that travellers mindfully close their protection gaps and enjoy peace of mind.”

“We are encouraged that more travellers are seeing the importance of protecting themselves while they go on short trips, even a weekend getaway as the take-up for FlexiTravel Hourly Insurance in 2024 tripled that of last year’s. This has motivated us to launch FlexiTravel Plus, the plus-sized version to protect short trips to 19 Asian destinations so that travellers have affordable and flexible travel protection options,” Ms Chua added.

FlexiTravel Plus also boasts enhanced benefits and they include coverage for trip disruption, travel delays and alterations, overbooked public transport and insolvency of travel agency. Additionally, loss of handphones and electronic devices due to robbery and snatch theft as well as overseas medical expenses and emergency medical evacuation are also covered by FlexiTravel Plus. For those who travel with sports equipment such as golf clubs and surf boards, they can opt for a rider to cover them.

For added convenience, travellers can activate, extend and stop their FlexiTravel Plus coverage anytime, on the My Income mobile app, should they return to Singapore earlier than intended.

Industry-first post-departure purchase feature

As an innovative and unique value-add to its travel insurance plans, Income Insurance is allowing travellers to buy conventional travel Insurance online up to a day after they have departed from Singapore, via a new industry-first post-departure purchase feature. For travellers who wish to purchase FlexiTravel Plus for their short trips, they can do so within 8 hours after leaving Singapore, for a coverage period of at least 24 hours.

Prior to Income Insurance’s post-departure proposition, travel insurance must be purchased prior to the departure date of the trip to be eligible for coverage. By enabling post-departure purchase, Income Insurance is offering travellers unprecedented flexibility to close their protection gap and to achieve peace of mind since the rest of their trip is protected after arriving at their destination. For spontaneous travellers who may have forgotten to purchase travel insurance, the option for post-departure purchase of travel insurance would offer significant value.

Overseas telemedicine service for travellers with pre-existing medical conditions

Apart from being the only annual travel plan offered in Singapore that covers pre-existing medical conditions, Income’s Enhanced PreX Annual Travel Insurance also now includes a new benefit – Overseas telemedicine service for policyholders.

Policyholders can access a doctor from Income Insurance’s appointed medical provider 24/7 via an overseas emergency hotline. For non-emergency cases such as flu or cold, the doctor can provide guidance to purchasing medicines and translation services for local pharmacies to ensure that travellers who require medical advice receive essential care while abroad.

Ms Chua added, “We recognise that travellers have diverse travel needs. Hence, it is important that we engage with customers regularly, keep an open mind and stay innovative with our insurance offerings. This ensures that we stay true to delivering positive social impact by being a purpose-driven insurer who sustainably offers insurance options that address real-world protection needs to people in Singapore.”
