new Income Insurance Athletics Development Fund

Singapore, Thursday 11 July 2024 - Income Insurance today announced its sponsorship of S$100,000 every year for the next five years, to the Singapore Athletic Association (“SAA”), further cementing its commitment to an ongoing partnership with the national sports association. The Income Insurance Athletics Development Fund (“IIADF”) aims to foster athletic excellence leading up to the SEA Games 2029.

This new sponsorship is an extension of Income Insurance’s existing sponsorship with SAA, which consist of cash sponsorship and insurance coverage for more than 120 athletes and staff members.

Propelling the local athletics scene to greater heights

The Income Insurance Athletics Development Fund (IIADF) involves an annual contribution of S$100,000 to provide enhanced support via both insurance coverage for SAA’s athletes and staff as well as cash sponsorship to fund overseas training and competitions over the span of five years, aligning with preparations for the highly anticipated SEA Games in 2029, which will be hosted in Singapore.

Majority of the IIADF will go towards supporting more young athletes to further develop their skills beyond current capacity to adapt to different training programmes and facilities overseas. Exposure to international athletes and training facilities will boost their sports performance and growth, as well as equip them with the skills sets to compete more competitively at elite competitions and major games.

Mr Dhiren Amin, Chief Customer Officer, Income Insurance, said, “We are delighted to work with the Singapore Athletic Association to foster the growth of our national athletes in the international competitive arena. The rigour and resilience in our top athletes are commendable and we want to stand by Team Singapore in their pursuit of athletic excellence and fly the Singapore flag high at the SEA Games 2029. The sponsorship will expand the opportunity for SAA to groom athletic talents from a younger age across multiple disciplines, giving these medal hopefuls an earlier head start to fully maximise their potential and competitive edge.”

The sponsorship, the biggest of its kind for SAA to date, will benefit the athletes in SAA’s National Development Squad who have been identified as possessing the potential to qualify for any of the major athletics competitions, such as the SEA Games, Asian Games, and the Olympics. This includes youth and junior athletes aiming to qualify for SEA Youth or Asian age-group level competitions.

It will enable SAA to work towards the goal of seeding at least two athletes in each athletics event at the SEA Games 2029, accounting for a total of between 70 to 80 athletes across three disciplines (run, throw, and jumps), as well as enhancing the skills of the national athletes.

Mr Lien Choong Luen, President, Singapore Athletic Association, said, “We are happy to be partnering with Income Insurance, and we are confident that their support aligns with our mission to promote sports excellence in Singapore. The new fund will enable our top and promising athletes to rise to the challenge and push themselves further to reach a new level of performance. With the sponsorship, we can be one step closer to achieving our goal of positioning Singapore as a top athletics nation in the region.”
